Liverpool hammer Leeds for first win in five games

Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota both scored twice as Liverpool claimed a first league win in five games by inflicting a second successive home hammering on Leeds.

The victory moves Jurgen Klopp's side up to eighth in the Premier League table and comes after a run of three defeats and a draw from their past four top-flight matches.

Salah opened the scoring from close range after Trent Alexander-Arnold had latched on to a poor clearance from goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Jota then scored his first goal since April 2022 with a neat finish from Curtis Jones' pass before adding his second from close range after good work from Cody Gakpo.

Leeds struggle to contain Liverpool attack

Salah added his second of the night from the penalty spot after Luis Sinisterra had fouled Gakpo, with the Egypt forward having now scored in each of his past six appearances against Leeds.

The result leaves Leeds 16th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone, and comes after they were beaten 5-1 by Crystal Palace in their previous home game.

Javi Gracia's side have now conceded 60 goals this season, more than any other Premier League team, with 11 of those coming in their past four matches.

"It was a very important game for us. We needed to win and get the three points. We did that and that's the most important thing." - Mohamed Salah

Klopp's side rediscover scoring touch

Liverpool had scored just once in their previous four Premier League games, but they rediscovered their scoring touch in style at Elland Road.

The Reds had 16 shots in total, with 10 of those on target, and could have scored more had it not been for some good saves from Meslier.

The win keeps alive Liverpool's slim hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League, with Klopp's side now nine points behind fourth-placed Newcastle, having played a game more.
